TEHRAN - The secretary the Supreme National Security Council has played down the West’s threats against Iran, saying they have never been successful.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran has been threatened by world powers for many years,” Ali Shamkhani told the Tasnim news agency, adding that these threats have never yielded any results.

The enemy has failed wherever it has tried to threaten the Iranian nation, he added.

“The most important key for the success of the Iranian nation in the fight against the enemy and victory over their threats is their unity, therefore this unity will lead to more successes and victories of the Iranian nation over enemies.”

In similar remarks on Saturday, Shamkhani said the threats made against Tehran as limited to media outlets.

“We should know that the scope of their threats does not go beyond the level of media outlets,” Shamkhani, a former defense chief, stated.

His remarks came as the U.S. has threatened time after time that all options, including military option, are on the table if no deal is made on Iran’s nuclear energy program.

Senior Iranian officials have slammed the belligerent rhetoric, stressing that these are empty threats.
